Vintage
Trains of Bangkok was the former exclusive manufacturing arm of ACE
Trains, London. The Vintage Trains brand will be used for products where
there is common ownership of tooling between the two companies.

Originally a locomotive of the Great Eastern Railway (Class T77) prior
to grouping in 1923, the J19s were designed by Alfred J Hill, Chief
Mechanical Engineer at the Stratford works. Based on earlier GER classes
incorporating modifications, a total of 25 locomotives were built in
four batches between 1916 and 1920 and were considered by many associated
with the railway to be rather unattractive. During the 1930s the J19s
were rebuilt with larger boilers and as they had vacuum ejectors they
could work fitted goods trains.
They were
seen in many places across the former GER and Midland & Great Northern
Joint Railway lines but in later LNER times they tended to be concentrated
around East Anglia although some of the class saw work on the Durham
coal fields. Most generally associated with goods duties by the end
of the 1950s they were considered to be very old stock. Withdrawals
were very rapid and the last two were withdrawn on 16th September 1962
– the very last of the ex-GER steam locomotives. None survive
on heritage lines.
Limited
to just 400 models the J19 0-6-0 locomotive is available in three rail
formats only. The 0-6-0 J19 locomotive is available in five versions
with a total of 250 produced in LNER green, 75 in LNER black and 75
in BR black. The LNER version is painted in a high gloss finish.
The Vintage
Trains 0-6-0 J19 has been very well received particularly in terms of
the quality finish and new, quieter and powerful worm motor. The J19s
have been moving like 'hot cakes' or perhaps to use a more appropriate
railway pun, moving like bacon and eggs off a fireman’s shovel!

To complement your Vintage Trains 0-6-0 J19 locomotive, Shamrock Trains
is able to offer from autumn 2009 a new five coach rake of Darstaed
LNER non-corridor vintage style coaches. This wonderful combination
will allow you to recreate the halcyon days of rural and market town
railway travel in the north east of England. These superb coaches initially
in a three rail format will incorporate clerestory roofs, individual
coach interiors, coach lighting and rear lamp found on the brake van.
A common pick-up spoon for the third rail will be located in the brake
coach. Other features include AC/DC 20 volts compatible and new rigid
compensating bogies (without the screw on the side) with insulated wheels
making them suitable for either two or three rail running. A BR Maroon
set of Darstaed non-corridor vintage style coaches will be offered at
a later date.

Hornby Bassett-Lowke also has a superb range of rolling stock to run
with your Vintage Trains 0-6-0 J19 locomotive. These come in earlier
North East era and, of course, later LNER and BR periods. Wagons for
the LNER period include a 3 and 7 plank PO wagon, a NE 12 ton vent van,
a variety of tankers and an LNER brake van. A similar range is offered
in BR period as well as a range of coal wagons. See the Bassett-Lowke
page for further information.
