Darstaed is pleased to announce that it has signed an exclusive agreement
with the A1 Locomotive Trust, owners of the first brand new mainline
steam engine locomotive to be built in the British Isles in 50 years,
to manufacture and jointly market a three rail gauge O model of Tornado.
Shamrock Trains is delighted with this development as this will provide
a very high level of visibility to the gauge O ready to run hobby. The
first two liveries will be factory grey and BR apple green as it is
currently running and any future liveries the A1 Trust may adopt. Darstaed
will also offer a range of Peppercorn A1s which will differ slightly
from Tornado. The price of the Tornado will be around £850.
if you would like to be notified when the Tornado and the A1 Peppercorns
become available.

Darstaed’s
first ‘Tinplate Collection’ offer will feature a highly
versatile 2-6-2 tank locomotive that can be used for a variety of traffic
duties and is accompanied by a matching set of non-corridor stock. Darstaed
has created new ground with these rather stylish suburban non-corridor
coaches that certainly capture the mood from the early part of the previous
century. The five coach sets include two brake, two 3rd class and one
1st class or composite coach. All coaches have plastic seating interiors,
central lighting and rear lamp on one brake.

The
first of Darstaed’s new 40 cm continental Marklin style coaches
will be the Night Ferry. Full details of this special sleeper service
set appear below. However, the Night Ferry (Paris-Londres Ferry Boat
de Nuit) will be just the first in a whole series of planned continental
40 cm coaches based on the finest offerings from both the Markin and
earlier Darstaed production era. This will include CIWL Pullman blue
and cream liveried coaches used to make up special continental express
train services such as the French half of the Golden Arrow (Fleche D’Or),
the Blue Train (Train Bleu) to the Mediterranean coast and the earlier
brown and cream coaches of the Istanbul bound Orient Express. These
wonderful coaches can be run with an assortment of MTH continental steam
and electric locomotives.

A first
in the history of British and continental O gauge tinplate, the unique
London to Paris (and Brussels) Night Ferry (Paris-Londres Ferry Boat
de Nuit) service set will be Darstaed’s first tinplate European
style rolling stock. The Night Ferry incorporated CIWL sleeper cars
used on both sides of the channel. Why not recreate the magic of the
London to Paris Night Ferry service with this very special edition?
The Night Ferry will comprise a rake of sleeping cars together with
NORD and SNCF mail and baggage vans which operated on Southern and continental
rails alike.
Detailed
design work is now underway, lined drawings and other details of the
CIWL sleeping cars will be provided during the year. And if you can’t
wait then one of these very special sleeping cars (No: 3792 from 1936)
can be seen in real life at the National Railway Museum in York.
And if
you’re looking for suitable motive power to pull your Darstaed
Night Ferry, then ACE Trains E/9 SR Bullied ‘West Country’
and ‘Battle of Britain’ Spam Cans will provide the ideal
solution. As the Night Ferry was frequently doubled-headed other visitors
for this service could include the ACE E/10 4-4-0 Schools class and
Hornby Bassett-Lowke’s Maunsell 2-6-0 N Class locomotives as the
perfect accompaniment. For continental operators you will not have to
go much further than MTH’s Nord and SNCF liveried Chapelon Pacific
locomotives to power the Night Ferry in to Europe.
Shamrock
Trains through its unique relationships with Darstaed, MTH and ACE Trains
is able to help model railway operators and collectors alike to recreate
the era of boat-train services to Europe and beyond by reproducing many
of the well known express train services of the time. Darstaed over
the following years will launch a wide variety of very special European
continental coaches and some as very unique and collectable sets. To
borrow the phraseology of the above 1928 poster Shamrock Trains is really
the ‘Gateway to the Continent’ for gauge O ready to run
trains.
The Night
Ferry will be a very special edition – its likely to be much sought
after that will appeal to both British and continental operators alike.
We, therefore, recommend that you place your interest now to guarantee
a set once they are available.

These powerful
and colourful designed vans from Darstaed are based on station and bridge
advertising boards sold by Bassett-Lowke in the period from 1904 to
1915. The professionally designed advertising artwork produced on the
van sides really captures the spirit of the time when typography was
far more important than the visual image of today’s branded products.
Darstaed’s
private label style vans represent first class value. There are only
500 of each of the ten designs available world-wide. This first batch
of ten will form part of a total of 30 advertising designs that captured
the essence of British and Irish life during the first half of the 20th
Century. These will be released over a two year period and will not
be repeated again. Be sure to place your order soon to ensure that you
are not disappointed.
The private
label vans are produced with finely detailed chassis and will incorporate
sprung buffers, cast spoked wheels, interchangeable drop link couplings
and suitable for both two and three rail running. These vans will add
colour to your freight trains but, more importantly, will complement
the new range of Darstaed O gauge 2-6-2 tank locomotives and the vintage
non-corridor suburban coaches that are coming in the late autumn.
Darstaed’s
private label style vans have been competitively priced at £45.00
each (+P&P).

Darstaed’s
Brighton Belle, the world’s first all-Pullman all-electric service
is now available for purchase. Wallow in the golden hazy glow of the
past with our beautifully crafted version of this famous train. The
Brighton Belle was the country’s premier electric train and almost
at once became the most famous electric multiple-unit in the world.
The Brighton Belle was characterised by its plush decor, deep armchairs
and pink lampshades and for providing a regular and timely service to
the south coast in style. Darstaed’s evocative and distinctive
five car Pullman service certainly looks the part.
Inspired
by the fabulous artwork of the Leeds Model Company, the composition
of the five-coach Brighton Belle is based on Unit 3051 and is the standard
model. Sets 3052 and 3053 are also available to buy at no extra cost.
Unit 3051 comprises motor brake third 88, kitchen firsts Hazel and Doris,
parlour third 86 and motor brake third 89. Available initially in three
rail format with interior lighting powered through a pick-up in the
motor coach. An AC/DC version and a two rail version will be available
at a later date. An additional set of ivory or pewter grey roofs is
available at a cost of £30.00. This special Brighton Belle set
in either Southern or BR era days will be on your layout to speed you

Based on
the illustrious era of Pullman cars from the mid 1920s to the early
30s, Shamrock Trains offers a total of nine exclusive Darstaed Pullman
sets. These Pullman trains can be run with a wide variety of ready to
run locomotives. The exquisite 35 cm coach sets reflect the many memorable
named Pullman trains found operating across Britain and Ireland during
the pre and post war years. These include:
•
The Golden Arrow
• Torbay Pullman
Limited/Bournemouth Belle
• Devon Belle
• Cunarder
• Queen of Scots
• Yorkshire Pullman
• Tees/Tyne Pullman
• South Wales Pullman
• Irish Pullman
Each Pullman
set comes with a coach roof named Pullman train and destination boards.
Available with ivory or pewter grey roofs and initially in three rail
format with interior lighting powered through a common pick-up in the
brake end coach. Other features include AC/DC 20 volts compatible and
new rigid compensating bogies (without the screw on the side) with insulated
wheels making them suitable for either two or three rail running. A
two rail format for lighting will be developed at a later stage. Pullman
cars will also work with Darstaed’s new planned coach production;
these coaches will operate in a similar fashion incorporating individual
coach interiors, central coach lighting and rear lamp found on the brake
or full parcel van. A common pickup spoon for three rail will be located
in the brake coach or parcels van.

Individual
Pullman cars will be offered at a later date at a price of £89.00.
SET
A Golden Arrow circa 1929, early 1930s (Southern era)

Our Golden Arrow set recreates the luxury ten car Pullman service that
linked London with Paris. At Dover passengers took the ferry to Calais
and then on to Paris with the Flèche d’Or train of the
Chemin de Fer du Nord company (and later SNCF). Typically, the British
hauled service was headed by Lord Nelson class locomotives and took
just 98 minutes to travel between London and Dover. Following WW2 an
all-Pullman train (running with pre-war Pullman stock plus an additional
twelve-wheeled bar car called Trianon) was reintroduced on 15th April
1946. In 1951 a new Pullman set was built to coincide with the Festival
of Britain.

SET
B Torbay Pullman Limited/Bournemouth Belle circa 1929, early
1930s
(GWR and Southern era)

This special set comprises a number of special Pullman train services
which used a common Pullman stock originally commissioned by GWR to
commence their Pullman services. The Torbay Pullman Limited was a short
lived experience having been introduced on 8th July 1929 but withdrawn
after the 1930 summer season. The six car all Pullman service ran twice
a week (Mondays and Fridays) and was typically headed by Castles or
Kings. Considered not to be a success despite its luxury settings and
reduced to a three Pullman car service from 1930 which ended after the
summer. GWR formally ended their relationship with the Pullman Car Company
on 1st January 1931.
Our superb
stock of Pullman cars can also be used for the GWR Paddington –
Plymouth Ocean Liner Services which was introduced to the timetable
in May 1929 but withdrawn in 1930. This again was a short lived service
for passengers disembarking at Millbay Docks, Plymouth from ocean liners
of Compagnie Générale Transatlantique, Cunard White Star
and other shipping lines. The Ocean Liner train services used a combination
of GWR and Pullman stock – the Pullman stock acting as the first
class accommodation.
The western
division of Southern Railway acquired the Pullman stock from GWR; the
Bournemouth Belle was inaugurated on Sunday, 5th July 1931. Our set
recreates the Pullman service which ran to Bournemouth and for a limited
period on to Weymouth. It was a Sundays-only summer operation until
it became an all-year round service from the summer of 1936. King Arthur
and Lord Nelsons were used pre-war from 1931 to 1939. On its reintroduction
on 7th October 1947 the Bournemouth Belle was hauled by the superior
Merchant Navy class and in later years of the steam service by West
Country and Battle of Britain class locomotives. This service was finally
withdrawn by BR on 9th July 1967.

SET
C Devon Belle late 1940s (Southern and BR era)

Our
set captures the hazy summer days of the late 1940s. The Devon Belle
introduced on 20th June 1947 was comprised entirely of Pullman cars.
Southern and later BR Southern region also ran a number of Pullman cars
as part of other scheduled express services out of Waterloo to the West
Country. A variety of motive power headed the Devon Belle including
Merchant Navy class Bullied Pacific locomotives down to Exeter Central
and Light Pacifics for the two western journey extensions. The Devon
Belle was not a commercial success with the Plymouth portion being dropped
in 1949 and the entire service withdrawn following the 1954 summer season.

D Cunarder early – mid 1950s (BR era, southern region)

Our unique set represents the zenith of Ocean liner services. The Cunarder
luxury Pullman express service commenced 2nd July 1952 and ran between
London Waterloo and Southampton Docks connecting with the legendary
R.M.S. Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth ocean liners. Pullman services
also ran into Southampton Docks for other Cunard ships and for liners
of other major shipping lines. These Ocean liner trains included The
Statesman connecting with the S.S. United States and also Pullman cross-channel
boat trains such as The Normandy Express which commenced on 3rd March
1952.

E Queen of Scots late 1920s – early 1930s (LNER era)

Our Queen of Scots set is the first of our LNER series that represents
the service introduced in May 1928 which lasted initially until the
declaration of war in 1939. If you are looking for a new ready to run
locomotive to pull the Queen of Scots Pullman then the Hornby Bassett-Lowke
LNER 4-6-2 Class A1 Flying Fox is the perfect answer. Starting life
as The Harrogate Pullman in 1923, this service was extended to Scotland
in 1925 gaining the unofficial title of the ‘Edinburgh Pullman’
until the position was changed officially when The Harrogate Pullman
became titled as The Queen of Scots. This serviced reversed out at Leeds
and continued on to Harrogate and stations to Scotland. The Queen of
Scots (like all Kings Cross based Pullman services) used extensively
the new build of 1928 Pullman cars.

F Yorkshire Pullman mid 1930s (LNER era)

Our Yorkshire Pullman set recreates the service which commenced life
in 1935 and ran initially up until 3rd September 1939. A Hull section
of this train was detached at Doncaster and a Halifax bound section
was detached at Bradford. The Yorkshire Pullman service recommenced
on 4th November 1946 and lasted in various train formats until 5th May
1978. Faster running times required towards the end of the 1950s meant
that the 1928 stock was gradually replaced with a new generation of
44 Pullman cars delivered in 1960 and 61.

SET G Tees/Tyne Pullman late 1940s
– early 1950s (BR eastern region era)

Our BR era set was introduced on 27th September 1948 and ran as a regular
long distance service until 1976. Apart from the Golden Arrow, The Tees/Tyne
Pullman was one of the first services to operate with a bar carriage.
There were many examples of A4 locomotives heading this particular train
service but also Peppercorn A1s and Thompson A2s in the years after
the war. Diesels took over motive power in the 1960s as steam was gradually
withdrawn. Older Pullman stock was gradually taken out of service by
1965. Later Pullman cars were used extensively until this service ended
on 30th April 1976.

SET H South Wales Pullman late 1950s (BR
western region era)

Our set recreates the BR Western region Pullman service that was first
introduced on 13th June 1955. This new scheduled service introduced
Pullman facilities back to former GWR rails. The service was enthusiastically
received by BR managers who were determined to forget the shenanigans
and antipathy exhibited towards Pullman services by former GWR staff.
There were many examples of Castle Class locomotives heading this service
but diesel traction took over in later years.
